Gentle therapy improves well-being

Craniosacral therapy can help alleviate pain and restore overall well-being.

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on treatment that affects your whole body. Molly O’Leary, DC, is among the few experienced craniosacral therapy providers in Kansas City who combines it with other therapies to ensure the best results.

You may have craniosacral therapy alone or in combination with chiropractic adjustment and acupuncture, depending on your condition.

Relieves stress and tension of daily life

The craniosacral system includes the soft spinal tissue and the cerebrospinal fluid that cushions and protects your brain and spinal cord – the central nervous system. Daily stress can cause tightening of the soft tissue that affects the central nervous system, which in turn can affect the entire body.

Craniosacral therapy uses light pressure to relieve the tension and stress of daily life on your central nervous system. This gentle, hands-on treatment can relieve pain, improve your overall health and well-being, and enhance your body’s ability to heal itself.

Your craniosacral therapy session

Your session will take about an hour. You are fully clothed, lying still on a comfortable massage table in a quiet, relaxing environment. Craniosacral therapy is deeply relaxing, and you may even sleep through your session.

What to expect

During your first visit, Dr. O’Leary will review your symptoms and your health history including current and past health conditions, medications, diet, exercise and sleep habits. Be sure to mention any physical limitations that make it hard to perform daily or work activities. Also tell Dr. O’Leary about any numbness, tingling or weakness that may indicate neurological conditions.

If you need X-rays, Dr. O’Leary will refer you to a radiology office. If you have current X-rays, bring them to your appointment. Also be sure to download and complete the new patient and HIPAA consent forms and bring them with you.

About craniosacral therapy

Craniosacral therapy was pioneered and developed by John E. Upledger, DO, in the 1970s. Dr. Upledger was a clinical researcher and professor of biomechanics at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine from 1975-1983. His research verified the existence, influence and function of the craniosacral system.
