Get improved movement, flexibility

Chiropractic can restore movement to the spine and joints

Chiropractic can relieve back pain and improve movement and flexibility of your spine and joints without surgery. It can also extend the range of motion for joints including your shoulders, hips and knees.

Joints can become restricted because of past injuries, lack of exercise, or work habits. Pain may develop over time because the body compensates for injuries by realigning its balance, causing stress.

Molly O’Leary, DC, offers chiropractic treatment to adults and adolescents. Chiropractic treatment is noninvasive and uses no surgery or medication. There is no hospital stay and no recovery time. Its primary focus is the spine and musculoskeletal system, including ligaments and muscles.

Conditions treated

Chiropractic adjustment can treat conditions of the spine, neck, ligaments and joints that include:

  • Acute and chronic back, neck and joint pain
  • Arthritis
  • Back pain and low-back pain
  • Kyphosis (outward curve of the upper back, also called dowager’s hump)
  • Migraines and headaches
  • Sciatica (pain radiating down the leg)
  • Scoliosis (curved spine)

How chiropractic works

Treatment for the back includes quick, short thrusts by hand or a device called an activator to the vertebrae to move and realign them and relieve pressure on the spinal cord. Joints like the knees, hips, shoulder and elbow can be gently moved or rotated by hand to increase range of motion.

What to expect

During your first visit, Dr. O’Leary will review your symptoms and your health history including current and past health conditions, medications, diet, exercise and sleep habits. Be sure to mention any physical limitations that make it hard to perform daily or work activities. Also tell Dr. O’Leary about any numbness, tingling or weakness that may indicate neurological conditions.

If you need X-rays, Dr. O’Leary will refer you to a radiology office. If you have current X-rays, bring them to your appointment. Also be sure to download and complete the new patient and HIPAA consent forms and bring them with you.

Why you may have more than one session

Although your chiropractic treatment session takes about 20 minutes, you may need more than one session to provide lasting relief. Dr. O’Leary will discuss your treatment plan with you. Depending on your condition, you may also receive acupuncture or craniosacral therapy.

Chiropractors are healthcare professionals

In the U.S., a doctor of chiropractic degree requires at least four years of education that includes in-depth studies in anatomy, physiology (how the body functions), the nervous system, and radiology. Chiropractors take additional hours of education for license renewal every one or two years, depending on their home state. Molly O’Leary, DC, has been a Missouri state-licensed chiropractor since 1988.
